4V Heads, Dual Plane Med Height 3-2V Carbs Flange
ATTENTION FORD COLLECTORS! Here is one of the most RARE ORIGINAL FORD intake systems produced by Ford Motor Company. This is an Original Ford Three Two Barrel ( TRI-POWER ) Intake Manifold and Carburetor Assembly for a 351C 351 Cleveland engine. This includes a Factory Ford Aluminum Tri-power Intake Manifold which is made for the Large Port 4V cylinder heads, 3 original Tri-power Holley Carburetors, carburetor linkage, chrome tri power fuel log and chrome lid air cleaner assembly. This assembly was sitting in a private collectors collection and has just come available for sale. This is the FIRST TIME offered for sale. Ford only produced a handful of these assemblies and is EXTREMELY rare to find. I have not detailed the assembly and am offering it exactly as I found it. The carburetors work freely and there is no damage to the manifold, carburetors or linkage. The Holley 2V carburetors have LIST number 4710 on the center carb and 4638 on both end carburetors. The List number is hand etched which is not surprising due to the extremely low production of these. The end carbs also have number 3902353-EU and date code 992 which is the 2nd week of September 1969. The carbs are sitting on 3/8 inch bake-a-lite spacers and the center one has a vacuum port similar in appearance to a Boss 302 Mustang. The center carburetor is set up for a manual choke. The center carburetor has mechanical linkage and rods that connect to the outer carbs that will pull them off during deceleration. The outer carbs are vacuum operated for acceleration. The fuel log appears to be a generic chrome fuel block. The air cleaner base is stamped steel with special L type brackets that align the air filter element. The chrome lid is fairly heavy with very decent chrome. The matching chrome wing nuts appear to be the original Ford ones with the little locking tabs on the bottom that lock into the small notches on the air cleaner top that prevents them from spinning off. I have looked for Buddy Bar casting or XE numbers and can not see any although I have not removed the carburetors and looked between them.

The last one that sold on eBay, went for $5500.00 and had the correct prototype outboard carburetors, and likely correct center (Holley List #4709) carb with sleeved throttle bores. As Pete mentioned, it also had the ultra-rare air cleaner assembly which, by the way, natively accommodates the uneven carburetor spacing of these intakes.

The tri-power unit currently up for auction may have been polished at one time and then blasted at a later period. This would account for the absence of the customarily prominent XE-151445 Ford engineering number along the #1 intake runner, as well as the absence of the other raised casting marks that normally reside at the end of each intake runner, enumerating the cylinders.

An argument could easily be made that the center carb is a correct XE 351c piece. But, the outboard carbs are unmistakably 435 HP Chevrolet 427 Corvette tri-power pieces.

The only other explanation that comes to mind for the absence of casting numbers is that the unit is such an early prototype, the engineering numbers are crudely electric-penciled in an obscure location, like between the carburetors pads. Saw that on a 302 Tunnel-Port dual quad intake once and a one or two other intakes.

This seller has based his opening bid price of $5000.00 upon the faulty premise that his tri-power setup is of similar value to the previously mentioned “more complete” and “more pristine” unit of a few months ago. He also has a very liberal interpretation of “original appearance and finish.”
