Denny Wydendorf's 70 fastback

I had just started my first year of college and needed a car to drive to school. I bought a new 1970 Mustang in December of 1969 with a 302 2v and 3speed trans. After a couple of winters in Michigan I decided that if I was going to keep my mustang nice I needed to stop driving it on the street. In 1974 I bought some 351c parts and converted it to a drag race car. I raced it as a b/sm and a/sm in Nhra modified eliminator (fastest time was a 10.59 at 130.05 mph with a 404 inch 351c) until about 1980 and then converted it to a Super Stocker. With a 605 cfm autolite carb at 3470 lbs the fastest I went as a Super Stock J Mustang was a 10.53 at 126 mph. Among the parts my Mustang had were a .060 over filled block,2 ring venolia pistons, Stock polished rods with arp bolts., Comp Cams roller cam, Manley pushrods ,Crane Rockers, Edelbrock Torker Intake, JR 2 1/8 headers, D1ae-ga heads that were mildly ported with SI valves, special rear sump oil pan,k Motion triple valve springs, Hays sintered iron clutch disc, Jerico trans, nine inch Ford rear end with 6.00 gears and Mark Williams 35 spline spool and axles, Firestone 13w x31 tires and Competition Engineering ladder bars. I stopped racing the Mustang in 1996 after I finished a 1993 T bird for Super Stock. I am planning to put my Mustang back on the street as a cruiser but havn't finished my street motor yet. Maybe this year if I have the time.
